My DVD/CD player didn't install correctly during installation. I therefore can't load installation DVD or any other software. I can't find a driver and update in Control Panel device manager fails. Any ideas?

DVD/CD Drive Didn't Install
What I did - is copied the software from the installation DVD that you want to install, put it on a network share and connect to the network share and run it from there. You could do this with your DVD/CD player drivers :o)

Actually, if 4.03 doesn't work (because it didn't on any of mine), try the 3.47 release - that works pretty damn well indeed :o)

Thanks, but since I can't load CD/DVD onto drive I can't load an image onto the system. I also can't attach a usb backup drive.

You could try reinstalling the DVD. Go in control panel and uninstall, then power off. Physically remove the drive from the IDE slot on the mobo. Boot. Power off, reattach the drive and boot. See if Vista does a better job of installing the drive this time. If that doesn't work, you will have to either have a system where you dual boot or access to a network, and it still won't be a guarantee that the XP drivers will install/work.
